Step 1 Using a microwave safe container, empty the contents of one silkworm food packet (0.50 lbs). Add 3 cups of hot water, mix with an electric hand mixer until no powder is visible. Step 2 Cover container with lid (or plastic wrap), heat on high for 8 minutes in a microwave. Food will cook best with turntable on while cooking using a 1200W microwave. You will need to extend cooking time without turntable and lower wattage do not exceed 10 minutes total cook time. Food must boil to set the agar in the next step.

Step 3 Caution: Cooked food is hot, releasing steam once cover is removed that can burn your face and hands. Remove from microwave, using protection. Mix thoroughly with electric hand mixer, food becomes smooth and creamy. Replace cover, and let cool on counter top until firm. Bulk Stove Top Cooking Instructions v2.1 - (If cooking multiple pounds multiply the number of pounds by step 1) As an estimate, 3 cups of powdered food is equal to 1 pound when a scale is not available.

  1. Caution: Cooked food is hot, releasing steam that can burn your face and hands, always use protection. Bring 6 cups of water to a rolling boil. In a second pot add 1LB powdered silkworm food. Pour the 6 cups of hot water, into the powder. Using an electric hand mixer, mix until no powder is visible.
  2. Place on a double boiler (larger pot filled with water, small pot filled with food mix), do not place silkworm food directly on stove heat, you will scorch the food to the bottom of the pot. Using the had mixer on low, keep the food mixing to prevent it from sticking. Food must boil to set the agar in this step. As it cooks the mixture will thin out and become creamy.
  3. Remove from heat, using protection and pour into your storage containers (cups). Cover, and let cool on counter top until firm. Immediately place in the refrigerator after cool to touch, keep covered to prevent food from drying out. Food will firm and set to a soft cheese; ready to use.

Cooked food can be stored under refrigeration for one month, and sealed powdered food packets can be stored for 2 year.
